Before you stack multiple chemicals, work through the basics in order:
- Verify the test result with a reliable kit or fresh strip
- Check whether chlorine is holding after circulation
- Confirm pH is in a reasonable range
- Brush, skim, and keep the filter running long enough to matter
- Look for recent rain, debris, heavy swimmer load, or equipment downtime
